Flying Car Terrafugia Transition Roadable Aircraft Gets FAA Approval

Flying car, the Terrafugia Transition Roadable Aircraft has been approved by the FAA. The flying carTerrafugia Transition is a light aircraft non-tradition car and hence was approved by the FAA to start production. The vehicle is able to take to the road, and to flight.

The Terrafugia Transition Roadable Aircraft has a price tag of $200,000. But for the Terrafugia Transition’s ability to avoid traffic jams, it’s priceless. A special weight exemption by the FAA was granted this week to the creation of former MIT students.

It will be allowed a maximum takeoff weight of 1,430 pounds, the same allowance made for aircraftdesigned to operate on water. The extra weight is due to the of a protective safety cage, airbags and an energy absorbing crumple zone.

The flying car is a two-seat aircraft designed to take off and land at local airports and drive on any road. Transforming from plane to car takes the pilot less than 30 seconds.

Carl Dietrich, CEO of Terrafugia said, This breakthrough changes the world of personal mobility. Travel now becomes a hassle-free integrated land-air experience. It’s what aviation enthusiasts have been striving for since 1918.

The flying car will be available around 2011 and will cost about $193,000.
