72 Hour Prior Notice Must For Gautam Vora’s Arrest: Court

In a reprieve for model Viveka Babajee’s ‘boyfriend’ Gautam Vora, a local court on Tuesday restrainedfrom arresting him on the charge of abetment to suicide without giving him a 72-hour prior notice.

Principal judge of the sessions court M L Tahaliyani also directed Vora, a stock analyst, to cooperate with the police in the June 25 suicide of Babajee and present himself at Khar police station to record his statement whenever required.

The court issued the directions on Vora’s anticipatory bail application which it disposed of saying it was not maintainable as the police had not yet registered a case of abetment to suicide against him.

Bail was granted on the condition that Gautam doesn’t leave Mumbai for the next one week. Earlier Tuesday, the police recorded his statement. Vora told police that he was merely a friend. He said that Viveka was suffering from depression and that he was helping her come out of it.

The police submitted a bunch of photographs recovered from Viveka’s house and a video recording of her postmortem report to the court. The former supermodel committed suicide under mysterious circumstances in her Bandra residence on Friday.

Public Prosecutor Ramnath Kinni said, “Gautam has been given the bail. He has also been given summons by the police. He agreed to cooperate and not leave the city.”

However, the cops have not yet given clean chit to anybody and will find out if abetment to suicide charge deserves against anybody, he added.
